If the patient is an armed forces member, medical information may be released as military command authorities require. Medical information about military personnel may be released to the appropriate foreign military authority, subject to an official request by the military agency.

The office may use and/or disclose your protected health information for research purposes when an institutional review board or privacy board reviews the research proposal, approves it, and establishes protocols to ensure the privacy of your protected health information. It may also be used and/or disclosed for research in graduate programs, subject to your authorization.
